Definition

Community involvement is a bottom up approach which involves the community in decision-making process. For example, communities living in flood-prone areas are actively engaged in the identification, analysis, planning, monitoring and evaluation of disaster risk (including flood) in order to reduce their vulnerabilities and enhance their capacity. (Stam C.J., 2015)

Co-benefits and impacts

Community involvement help strengthening the community resilience to flood and also to recover after a disaster event, i.e local community-led action. For instance, local residents help affected people by providing and organizing food and medical supplies. (Stam C.J., 2015)
