Definition
EU adopted the Flood Risk Management Directive. Directive 2007/60/EC on the assessment and management of flood risks entered into force on 26 November 2007. This Directive now requires Member States to assess if all water courses and coast lines are at risk from flooding, to map the flood extent and assets and humans at risk in these areas and to take adequate and coordinated measures to reduce this flood risk. Η ΕΕ ενέκρινε την Οδηγία για τη διαχείριση των κινδύνων πλημμύρας. Η Οδηγία 2007/60/ΕΚ για την αξιολόγηση και τη διαχείριση των κινδύνων πλημμύρας τέθηκε σε ισχύ στις 26 Νοεμβρίου 2007. Η παρούσα Οδηγία απαιτεί τώρα από τα κράτη μέλη να αξιολογήσουν τον κίνδυνο πλημμύρας σε όλα τα υδάτινα σώματα και τις ακτογραμμές, να χαρτογραφήσουν την έκταση της πλημμύρας, τα περιουσιακά στοιχεία και τους ανθρώπους που βρίσκονται σε κίνδυνο σε αυτές τις περιοχές και να λάβει τα απαραίτητα μέτρα για την μείωση του κινδύνου πλημμύρας. Με την παρούσα Οδηγία ενισχύεται επίσης το δικαίωμα του κοινού να έχει πρόσβαση σε αυτές τις πληροφορίες και να έχει το δικαίωμα λόγου στη διαδικασία σχεδιασμού.(European Commission, Directive 2007/60/EC, accessed on Sept.2016)
