Definition
A ditch is usually defined as a small to moderate depression created to channel water. A ditch can be used for drainage, e.g. to drain water from low-lying areas, alongside roadways or fields, or to channel water from a more distant source for plant irrigation. A trench is a long narrow ditch. Ditches are commonly seen around farmland especially in areas that have required drainage such as low land areas. Η Τάφρος, συνήθως αποτελεί ένα μικρό ή μέτριο κοίλωμα, το οποίο κατασκευάζεται για την διοχέτευση του νερού. Μια Τάφρος μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί για αποστράγγιση, π.χ. για την αποστράγγιση υδάτων από περιοχές χαμηλού υψομέτρου, αποστράγγιση οδών ή περιοχών, ή για τη διοχέτευση νερού από απομακρυσμένες περιοχές για αρδευτικούς σκοπούς. Μια τάφρος ουσιαστικά αποτελεί μια στενή επιμήκης τάφρος αποστράγγισης.
