Flood management measure: Dwelling mound

Definition

A dwelling mound is an artificial hill made from earth, created to provide safe ground for humans and animals during storm surges. This concept has been applied to the Hafen City Hamburg which involves the heightening areas and access routes based on the model of the dwelling mounds. The dwelling mounds can be connected by building of dikes in between them, in order to create a larger continuous protected area.

Ένα τεχνητό ύψωμα καταφυγής είναι ένας τεχνητός λόφος φτιαγμένος από γαιώδη υλικά, ο οποίος κατασκευάζεται για να παρέχει ασφαλές έδαφος για ανθρώπους και ζώα, κατά τη διάρκεια έντονων καταιγίδων. Η τεχνική αυτή έχει εφαρμοστεί στην περιοχή Hafencity του Αμβούργου και περιλαμβάνει την ανύψωση περιοχών και των οδών πρόσβασης βάσει του μοντέλου των κατοικιών. Τα τεχνητά υψώματα μπορούν να συνδεθούν με την κατασκευή αναχωμάτων μεταξύ τους, προκειμένου να δημιουργηθεί μια μεγαλύτερη και συνεχόμενη προστατευμένη περιοχή.
